T&TEC Crews Work To Restore Power Outages In North & East Trinidad After Destructive Showers

By Newsroom

Twenty-five T&TEC crews are still working in North and East Trinidad to restore supply to customers, after severe weather on Friday night and Saturday morning impacted the electricity grid.

In a statement from T&TEC on Saturday evening, the company said in addition to lightning activity, heavy winds and rain felled trees and carried other large debris onto overhead lines and poles, triggering several outages.

Emergency Crews from South and central Trinidad, which were less impacted by the weather, were re deployed to assist where needed.

Supply has been restored in approximately 50 locations and approximately 27 are currently being
attended to, T&TEC said.

General Manager, Kelvin Ramsook, assures customers that they will continue to work through the night, if necessary, to complete the repairs. “We are sorry for the inconvenience being experienced and we are working to resolve the issues in the quickest possible time”, he said.

The pace of restoration has been impacted by the need to clear trees and other debris before working on the affected lines.

The major areas that are still affected are listed below (please note that smaller areas and individual reports are not included).
