The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has begun an investigation into a report that the Twitter account of Miss World T&T finalist, Manisha Moonilal, was breached.

Moonilal, who represents Marabella in the Pageant, made a report to the Cyber and Social Media Unit of the TTPS after posts bearing her name appeared online with racist and derogatory language.

On Sunday evening, the Miss World Trinidad and Tobago organizers spoke out in defense of  Moonilal, saying it believes the tweets were fabricated to tarnish Moonlilal’s character.

It added that it does a thorough online check of any young woman who enters the competition.

The post in question, used racist language to describe African-Americans and the ongoing civil unrest in the US, over the police killing of George Floyd.
