Twelve people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during road exercises last night, Friday 21st February, 2020.

The TTPS said: “Five persons were arrested and charged for DUI and another for possession of cocaine during an exercise conducted along Caura Road and Trantrail Road St. Augustine.”

The exercise was conducted by the Traffic Branch Road Policing Task Force (RPTF) and was spearheaded by Assistant Superintendent Williams, Inspector Maraj and Sgt Harrylal.

“The Port of Spain DUI Team arrested and charged seven drivers for driving a motor vehicle with a breath alcohol level exceeding the prescribed legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The exercise was led by Assistant Superintendent Soker, Inspector Superville and Sgt Bharath. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service again appeals to motorists to designate a driver if they know they will be consuming alcohol during their festivities, as drunk driving poses an unacceptable risk to all road users.”
