UNC Councillor Crosses Over To PNM?

By Newsroom

With Local Government elections just around the corner, UNC Councillor Samuel Sankar has blurred the lines of demarcation between the PNM and the UNC, appearing front row at the People’s National Movement’s political meeting in Chaguanas on Tuesday night.

Sankar, who serves residents of Kelly Village/Warrenville, first raised eyebrows back in August, when he defied a call from the Opposition Leader to boycott the Ministry of Local Government’s meeting with Councillors.

He was the only UNC Councillor to turn up for the talks, later saying the people must come first.

Councillor Sankar was publicly welcomed to the party by Minister in the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Legal Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, Renuka Sagramsingh.

“Councillor Sankar has left the rising sun and he is here tonight- I am pronouncing it- he is here tonight to see what the PNM has to offer. Councillor Sankar, I say to you- welcome to the People’s National Movement. Bring your family, bring your friends; this is a party that speaks about unity. This is a party for all people and we welcome you tonight,” Minister Sagramsingh said.
