UNC Requests Recount In Five Constituencies, Pledges Support To Kamla Despite Loss At Polls

By Newsroom

In addition to the United National Congress requesting a recount of five seats, the party is in the process of compiling what it refers to as a “list of irregularities” in Monday’s election, with the intent to submit its findings to the Elections and Boundaries Commission for review.

This was revealed by the party’s Public Relations Officer, Anita Haynes, during a press conference on Tuesday.

The new development confirms that the party has requested recounts for two more seats than was first indicated by the Political Leader on Monday night.

Responding to questions about the absence of the UNC Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar from Tuesday’s media briefing, Haynes said it was her job as PRO to face the press.

Despite leading her party to another consecutive loss at the polls, the United National Congress retains full confidence in its head, Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Ms. Haynes said internal elections are due in 2021 and until then- Kamla Persad Bissessar remains as the leader.
