US Embassy Introduces Passport By Mail Service For US Citizens

By Newsroom

US citizens who are currently in this country as well as those with dual citizenship can now apply for or renew their passports via TTPOST.

The United States Embassy in Port of Spain made the announcement today, and says the move is meant to simplify the process for both staff and US citizen customers.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this fantastic new convenience for the thousands   of citizens and dual nationals who both visit and reside in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Consular Chief Cindy Diouf.  “We think it will not only enable additional social distancing mechanisms during this time of COVID-19, it will also allow us to process applications in a more timely and efficient manner, for the benefit both of our staff and our U.S. citizen customers.”

In general, U.S citizens who were issued their current passport when they were age 16 or older and who have the passport in their possession will be able to use the new service to mail in their applications through TTPost.  The mail-in renewal option also can be used for citizens who require name changes on their passports, as long as all criteria are met.

U.S. citizens should visit the U.S. Embassy website – https://tt.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/ — to review the qualifying criteria and for detailed information regarding preparation of the application package, including links to the DS-82 application form and fee payment instructions.

All other consular services for U.S. citizens still require an appointment.

Those unable to schedule an appointment online or have an emergency are advised to email acspos@state.gov before arriving at the Embassy.
