The Lloyd Brathwaite Student Administration Building at the University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus remains closed today, after a fire broke out at the site last night.

The UWI says all of its administrative services will be available online and staff have been asked to work remotely.

Shortly after 7.00 pm on Thursday,  smoke was detected emanating from the Lloyd Brathwaite building.

Confirming the incident, the UWI said: “The safety and security of staff and students are of paramount importance and the building, which houses Student Administration, was immediately evacuated.”

No cause of the fire has yet been established.

There were no injuries reported.
