Vaccine Mandate Still Pending For Public Service, Says AG

By Newsroom

After giving public servants a one month extension before introducing a vaccine mandate for the workplace, government is once more putting the plan on hold, until further notice.

The mandate was supposed to come into effect yesterday, February 17th, however as explained by Attorney General Faris al Rawi in a press briefing on Friday, the law has already been drafted but he must now wait until Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley returns from a trip abroad to bring it before the Cabinet.

“The law has been drafted- but that law must be considered in the state of our science. The law has to be applied to the circumstances that we are in, or, the circumstances that we expect to come at us. Because a variant today may not be a variant tomorrow. Now the space for the science to be factored and the direction of the Cabinet as the Prime Minister will speak to, has to happen,” the AG said.

Dr. Rowley travelled on Friday to Doha, Qatar, where he will attend the  Sixth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

Public servants were initially given until January 17th to take at least a first dose
