Vendor Arrested, Charged With Murder In Market

A Maraval man is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Tuesday, charged with the August 6th murder of Phillip Cummings.

Sheldon Hypolite, 35, a vendor, of Cameron Hill, Maraval, was charged with murder, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, on Monday.

Mr. Cummings, aka ‘Shakey’, 57, of Never Dirty, Morvant, and another person were at the Central Market, Port of Spain, on Thursday 6th August, 2020, when they got into an altercation with a vendor.

During the incident, they were beaten about their bodies with a piece of wood. Mr. Cummings died at the scene as a result of his injuries, while the other person was taken to hospital for treatment.

A male suspect was held shortly after by officers of the Port of Spain Division in connection with the incident.
