Venezuelan Migrant In Quarantine Tests Positive For Covid-19

By Newsroom

One of the Venezuelan migrants who were detained for illegal entry into this country has tested positive for Covid-19.

This was confirmed by the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force via a statement on Tuesday evening.

The migrants were tested on Sunday, while in quarantine at the Coast Guard Heliport Base in Chaguaramas.

The TTDF says the positive patient has subsequently been placed separate from everyone else in the Infirmary Department of the Heliport.

“However, COVID-19 protocols require that all persons who were in primary contact with that positive migrant have to be treated as positive. They will now be quarantined for the next fourteen (14) days,” it daid.

As a result,  all physical visits from the outside by persons concerned to the Heliport is now restricted for the period.

“It means therefore that all persons who were in primary contact with this group must also now consider themselves at risk and take steps accordingly,” the TTDF said.

The patient is said to be presently asymptomatic.
