By Newsroom

Sunday’s Grammy’s event saw the Virginia-based group SOJA walking home with the award for Best Reggae Album for their offering, Beauty in the Silence.

The 8-member group was picked over all of the Jamaican nominees, including dancehall artist Spice, who was nominated for the first time for her hit album ’10’.

After the winner was announced Spice took to Instagram telling fans: “Besties don’t cry we’ve come a long way. Remember I came from Homeless to this day so I’m really still very humbled and grateful.”

Other nominees included Etana, Jesse Royal, Gramps Morgan and Sean Paul.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness praised the nominees while congratulating the winners.

“Jamaica gave the world Reggae, huge congratulations to our Grammy nominated Reggae Artistes! Congratulations to Soja on their win and for acknowledging the huge influence of Jamaica on their craft,” PM Holness tweeted.
