WASA extends amnesty on registering illegal connections

By Shirvan Williams

The Water and Sewerage Authority has announced an extension of its amnesty that will allow owners or occupants with illegal connections to regularize their status.

The Amnesty applies to:

• Persons who have an existing water service connection but are not
registered as a customer of the Authority;
• Customers who conduct a VAT-registered business and are currently
classified as a residential customer;
• Customers classified for yard/building tap, who now have internal plumbing
and have failed to notify the Authority, and…
• Persons with unregistered swimming pools

WASA also advised that it does not apply to the regularization of customers in unapproved developments.

To sign up a person must complete the application form, provide a current utility bill no older than 3 months as proof of address, along with two forms of valid identification.

Owners or occupants in the above categories are encouraged to regularize their status by visiting any of the Authority’s Customer Service Centres, located throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
