WATCH: UNC Calls EBC’s Independence Into Question, EBC Responds

“I am not afraid to say it and question the motives of the EBC.”

The words of United National Congress candidate for Tunapuna, David Nakhid, as he repeated his party’s allegation that the 2020 general election has been mired in controversy and void of full transparency. 

At a press briefing on Saturday, Nakhid, who initial election results show lost to the People’s National Movement’s Esmond Forde, took issue with the Elections and Boundaries Commission allowing a recount of ballots to continue when the UNC was not present. 

Asked my media personnel why the party representative did not remain alongside the PNM for the recont, Nakhid and party PRO, Anita Haynes, dismissed the question as “unfair”, saying both parties agreed to a certain timeframe prior.

The Elections and Boundaries Commission has since defended its actions, and issued the following statement:
