#WeJabbin: Health Minister Announces Vaccines To Be Available At All 109 Healthcare Centres From Next Week

By Newsroom

Noting that “anyone who wants to be vaccinated should have reasonable access to a vaccine”, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has announced that vaccines will be available from next week at all 109 health centres for people over the age of 18, excluding pregnant women.

He made the announcement during Saturday’s Covid-19 press briefing.

In addition to this development, Mass Vaccination Sites will also be introduced from next week at NAPA, Penal Powergen Station and the Couva Point Lisas Chamber.

Private hospitals will also be provided with vaccines, having agreed with government to administer them to staff and patients free of charge.

To date, some 11% of Trinidad and Tobago’s population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Latest statistics from the Ministry of Health show that a total of 248,003 people have been vaccinated for Covid-19 with one dose, while another 157,330 have been fully inoculated with two shots.

Government is looking at having 600,000 people fully vaccinated by the end of September.

It is also hoping to be able to vaccinate secondary school children with a possible donation of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines from the US, given the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines which are currently available cannot be administered to minors, in accordance with WHO guidelines.

In an attempt to convert anti-vaxxers, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley urged the grouping to trust in the science which has proven to be effective.

“Get high on the idea of being among the vaccinated who have the best chance of facing this virus,” he pleaded.
