Woman Soldier Among Two In Court For Car Theft

A 21-year-old female soldier is currently detained and a 19-year-old man remanded into custody after appearing yesterday before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate, charged with being in possession of stolen vehicle, and robbery with aggravation. 

Akkasia Raychel Charles, 21, a female soldier posted at the First Battalion, Long Circular Base, and who resides at St. Paul Street, Laventille, pleaded not guilty to being in possession of a stolen vehicle and was granted $150,000 bail.

Bail was granted with the condition that CHARLES is to stay away from the alleged victim and be detained at the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment until she reappears before the court on October 10th, 2021.

Courry Marvin Harry, 19, of Beetham Gardens, pleaded guilty to the offence of robbery with aggravation and was remanded into custody pending facts and sentencing which are to occur when he reappears before the court on September 14th.

The two were charged by WPC Cooper, of the Besson Street Police Station Criminal Investigations Department, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard SC.

On September 5th, 2021, police received a report of larceny of a motor vehicle during which a white NZE Corolla motor vehicle was taken from its owner.

CID detectives subsequently launched an investigation which resulted in the arrest of two suspects who were later charged with the respective offences.
