Workers Protest in Port of Spain

By Newsroom

Scores of workers marched, peacefully, from their union headquarters in Laventille to the Financial Complex in Port of Spain to highlight the problems on the job at both the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) and the National Maintenance, Training and Security company (MTS).

The intention of the march is to deliver a letter to Finance Minister Colm Imbert.

“The government is stifling MTS and s not giving it the kind of funding that is required,” one worker said at a brief rally before the start of the march.

“For example, the Ministry of Education and the Judiciary are both owing money to MTS and they say the government is not providing the funding for them to pay.

“Since 2018, retirees haven’t been paid their severance or their back pay.

“On the job, we do not have cleaning supplies but they want us to perform miracles without tools, “ she added.

A spokesman for the PTSC accused the government  “of playing games without lives.”

The workers left the Transport and Industrial Workers Union (TIWU) Headquarters on the Eastern Main Road  chanting “ No money No vote,’ tired of the same thing over and over,” and “we want we money right now.”
