Young: Resignation Of Paria’s Management “Premature” At This Stage, Investigation Will Guide Outcome

By Newsroom

Saying he believes it would be premature, at this time, for him to call for the resignation of any member of the Paria Fuel Trading Company’s management following last Friday’s tragedy, Energy Minister Stuart Young says if such a recommendation is made by the team set up to investigate the incident, he will act.

“I do not have any (official) report. At this stage I haven’t received any resignations, nor am I at this stage calling for any resignations,” Young said during Thursday’s Post Cabinet media briefing.

“I will prefer let’s wait, let’s see. Obviously if an investigation is taking place and the panel comes with a recommendation that they believe certain persons should step aside to allow the investigation to take place-  I will give that consideration as the Minister,” he added.

The four divers,  Fyzal Kurban, Rishi Nagassar, Yusuf Henry, and Kazim Ali Jr. all died after being sucked into an underwater pipeline while conducting an underwater maintenance exercise at #36 Sealine riser on Berth #6 at Paria, Pointe-a-Pierre.

A fifth man, Christopher Boodram, survived the ordeal and remains warded at hospital.

Attorney Shiv Sharma will chair the five person panel appointed by Cabinet to investigate the incident.

At this afternoon’s post cabinet media briefing, Energy Minister Stuart young said the team will be given a 45 day period to compile and submit a report of their findings.
