$10 Million To Be Allocated To Bar Industry Employees As Current Covid-19 Restrictions Remain

By Newsroom

Bar owners have once more been ordered to adhere to the existing Covid-19 restrictions, as their fervent request to be allowed to facilitate in-house customers was denied by government.

At Saturday’s Covid-19 press conference held by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, Dr. Rowley said the presence of alcohol within groups still posed a threat to the gains made in the fight against Covid-19, which government was not willing to take a chance on.

In an effort to “bear the burden” of the economic impact, however, Dr. Rowley has instructed the Finance Minister to make a $10million allocation “specifically to treat with employees who work in bars or restaurants” who are struggling to make ends meet at this time.

For bar owners, the Prime Minister urged them to make use of small business support grants that are presently available.

Other changes announced by the Prime Minister, was a decision to open the hunting season, after hunting activity had been banned for the past six weeks.

There will, however, be no extension to the hunting season.

The last of the “very small changes” announced by the Prime Minister, was the allowance for casinos to serve food at their establishments- something Dr. Rowley said “slipped through the cracks” two weeks ago when he granted cinemas permission to serve food.
