The donation of 100,000 doses of Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines have been transported from the plant to the cargo Airport in Beijing, beginning a journey to Trinidad.

The update was provided by Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Fang Qiu on Sunday.

“They are ready to go across the ocean and reach the T&T people as I am posting this. The Chinese side stays committed to trying its utmost to cooperate with the T&T side to ensure the efficient delivery. Together we safeguard the people and fight the pandemic,” Ambassador Qiu said.

The vaccine donation was agreed upon back in March between Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and China’s President Xi Jinping, but had been on hold until the vaccine received approval from the World Health Organization two weeks ago.

Subsequent to the initial gift from China, government has outlined a plan to purchase “hundred of thousands” of Sinopharm vaccines, as part of efforts to achieve herd immunity in the shortest possible time.
