$80K Bail For Man Charged With Beating Female Police Officer

A man was was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 when he appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate charged with beating and choking a female police officer.

The pair got into an argument on June 15th at a house in Chaguanas, after which the victim said she left and went to her mother’s house. The man also proceeded to that location and according to the the woman’s statement, dealt her a blow to the left side of her forehead.

He is alleged to have shouted at her, “I come to kill yuh” following which he started to squeeze her throat.

The woman managed to escape and called out to her sister. The officer was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where she was medically examined.

A report was made the next day, June 16th, and the matter was referred to the Gender Based and Violence Unit.

The man was arrested and charged for the offences of assault by beating and choking.

He appeared before the Magistrate at theChaguanas Magistrates’ Court on June 22nd where he pleaded not guilty.

He is due to reappear in court on July 20th.
