By Newsroom

Government has spent $80million for the installation of some 2,500 CCTV cameras, to be set up at various public locations across the country.

“And they are being installed as I speak,” Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced during a PNM meeting in Chaguanas on Tuesday night.

He added that plans are already afoot to purchase another 2,500 cameras.

In addition, a tax break will be offered for the corporate sector and residential homes to put cameras in and around their property, which could then be accessed by police in the event of a crime.

“…Because these criminals, they have to come out from their hole and they have to move. And when they do that these cameras, the police will move these records to assist in the fight against crime,” the PM said.
