By Newsroom

It was a beautiful weekend for team TTO in Birmingham, England, with the Men’s 4×400 Relay team securing a gold medal at the 22nd Commonwealth Games.

Running in lane eight, Jereem Richards, Dwight St. Hilaire and Asa Guevara and Machel Cedenio.

The gold victory followed a Silver Medal win from the Men’s 4×100 relay earlier on Sunday, which comprised the team of Jared Elcock, Eric Harrison Jr., Kion Benjamin and Kyle Greaux.

That race was won by England

On Saturday, Jereem Richards defended his title, winning the Men’s 200m final.

Richards broke the Games record when he ran his personal best in a time of 19.80 seconds.

Among those offering congratulations to the athletes was Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, who reflected on team TTO’s success at this year’s games.

“Today’s activities and the cyclists’ performances, coming back to back, should dispel some of the negative vibes that flow through so many people who do not believe that we can make it or are indeed making it. Some even go as far as to question whether we do have anything to celebrate at our 60th Anniversary, this year…For those who believe in us and in themselves this is truly a Happy Anniversary,” the PM said on Sunday.

“My sincerest thanks to all who contributed to these successes. Our nation is better for your efforts, especially those of you who believe, show the discipline and endured the pain on the tracks of competition, worldwide. Red, White and Black all the way,” he ended.
