A New Beginning: US President Joe Biden Pledges To Lead With Unity

By Newsroom

It’s official- Joe Biden has been sworn in as the 46th US President, officially marking the end of the Donald Trump era and one of America’s most tumultuous transitions of power.

“Democracy has prevailed,” he said after taking the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts.

Continuing his tone of unity, Biden told those looking on that while the moment represents a new chance for America’s healing, it also marks an opportunity for the country to gain so much more than it has lost.

“My whole soul is in putting America back together again,” he added.

Wednesday’s inauguration took place at the US Capitol, with extra-tight security after the building was stormed by violent pro-Trump protesters in a deadly riot on 6 January.

Vice-President Kamala Harris also took her oath of office – making her the first woman to hold that position.

Among those attending the ceremony were three of his predecessors: Barack Obama – under whom Mr Biden served for eight years as vice-president – Bill Clinton and George W Bush, as well as Mr Trump’s vice-president, Mike Pence.
