By Newsroom

Staff at the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) who engaged in protest action at Arima on Monday and Mt Hope on Tuesday for the payment of outstanding arrears on increments got good news this morning. An official memo from CEO Davlin Thomas stated that after extensive discussions with the Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, overnight, the decision was taken to pay all outstanding money during the week of June 30 to July 4. Workers protested on Tuesday at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope after they were told that 25 percent of the arrears would be paid at the end of the month. They rejected the offer outright. By Tuesday night, the NCRHA offered to pay 50 percent of the money owed. But the final word came via a memo from the CEO on Wednesday morning, promising all outstanding arrears which would amount to TT$37 million. Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said it would not affect the budget of the Ministry of Health since the payment was negotiated with the Minister of Finance.
