AG Declines Further Comment As Missing Naipaul-Coolman Case File Reappears

By Newsroom

Let the investigation run its course.

That was the sentiment shared by Attorney General Reginald Armour, when asked to disclose where the once missing Vindra Naipaul-Coolman case file was located, as revealed by the lead investigator in the matter Monday.

Responding to a question from the Opposition during the sitting of the Senate on Tuesday afternoon, AG Armour remained mum as it relates to providing further details.

“I do not propose to answer the question which is the subject. That is for the investigation team to investigate and report on in due course,” the AG said.

Late on Monday evening came a statement from retired Justice Stanley John, the appointed lead investigator on the matter, confirming that the file- which reportedly vanished in 2020- had been found.

“I was this evening; the 6th February informed by the Solicitor General (Ag), Ms. Karleen Seenath that the file in question was today handed over to her,” the release from Mr. John read.

He added that he has immediately instructed that the Acting Solicitor General secure that file for collection by the Investigation Team.

“The re-appearance of this file forms part of this continuing investigation,” he said.

Last Wednesday, AG Armour revealed that the State did not mount a defence in the malicious prosecution suit filed by the nine men formerly accused in the businesswoman’s murder and kidnapping because it was unaware of the matter given the file went missing.

It led to the High Court last Monday delivering a default ruling in favor of the nine men, who were each granted $2milllion in compensation from the State.
