AG Urges Population To Stop Using “Smartman-ism” To Get Out Of Wearing Masks

By Newsroom

“It’s not a time to be as novel as you can be in every exception as to why the law ought not to apply to you. Let’s call out our Trinidadians and Tobagonians, please comply with the mask-wearing requirements.”

This was the plea made by Attorney General, Faris Al Rawi, at a news conference on Wednesday morning, as he responds to reports of persons trying to find loopholes in the newly instated public health regulations which makes the wearing of facial masks mandatory.

The law- which requires all persons over 8 years old to wear masks, came into effect on Monday.

Since then, many have taken issue with children being required to wear the mask.

“I want to remind, however that the Children Act works in conjunction with this law…Sections 56 and 57 provide that where a child (under 18 years of age) is charged with any offence, treatable by a fine, damages or cost, that the parent, guardian or person with responsibility is the person to who the court will look to for the payment of the fine,” the AG clarified.

Meanwhile, people with legitimate existing medical conditions who may be unable to adhere to the mandatory wearing of masks regulation, will be required to show documentary evidence from their Doctor if stopped by a police officer.
