By Shirvan Williams

A 32-year-old woman is scheduled to appear before a Rio Claro Magistrate tomorrow November 7, after she was charged with 11 counts of Fraudulent Conversion of $800, and nine counts of Obtaining the sum of $800, by False Pretences.

According to the TTPS, DIANE MORALES, of Sancho Road, New Grant Village, Princes Town, will answer to the charges laid by PC Gadar, of the Fraud Squad, East Office.

According to police reports, between Sunday 30th August 2020 and Sunday 30th October 2022, a woman allegedly paid sums totalling $8,800, to an Insurance Agent. The money paid was to be applied to a monthly premium payment towards her Insurance Policies.

The woman also reported that between 31st October 2022 and 30th June 2023, she paid $6,400 cash to the Insurance agent for the same purpose. The woman later discovered that the money was allegedly never paid on her behalf causing the policies to lapse. She also discovered that the Insurance Agent was no longer employed with the insurance company and was not authorized to collect money on their behalf. Attempts by the victim to secure a refund of her money from the former Insurance Agent proved futile.

PC Gadar conducted enquiries and on Monday 30th October 2023, arrested a suspect, who was charged yesterday. MORALES was granted $80,000 bail by Justice of the Peace, Carl Dattoo.
