Alleged sexual predator arrested at St. Ann’s Hospital

By Shirvan Williams

Police have detained a man who is accused of molesting more than 30 boys at the St Dominic’s Children’s Home. The incidents are believed to have taken place over 20 years ago. According to reports, he was arrested at the St Ann’s hospital this morning after a warrant was executed last week but he was on vacation at the time. Some other reports indicate that at least six former wards of the St Dominic’s Children’s Home in Belmont have already given statements to the police.

His alleged predatory behaviour was previously highlighted in the 1997 report by the Cabinet-appointed Task Force that reviewed the operations of children’s homes and institutions in T&T.

“A male member of staff (who was once a resident there) is alleged to have perpetrated multiple sexual acts with a number of children up to the latter part of 1995. These included forced buggery; encouraging boys to have sex with each other while he watched; stripping and beating the older boys while the younger ones looked on; encouraging the children to ‘play’ with him, etc,” the report stated.
