Amazon updates Alexa after it told 10-year-old girl to put a penny on a half-inserted charger

Amazon has updated its Alexa voice assistant after it apparently challenged a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug. According to reports, the suggestion came after the girl asked Alexa for a “challenge to do”.

Alexa is believed to have said, “Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet, then touch a penny to the exposed prongs.”

Amazon confirmed that it fixed the error as soon as the company became aware of it.

The dangerous challenge became popular on TikTok and is known as “the penny challenge.” It began circulating on the social media platform and other social media websites about a year ago.

The challenge has been condemned since metals conduct electricity and inserting them into live electrical sockets can cause electric shocks, fires and other damage.
