Ameen Calls On Education Minister To Pay Outstanding Cash To EFCL, Exam Workers

By Newsroom

Opposition MP Khadijah Ameen calls on Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly to honor outstanding payments to EFCL teachers and exam invigilators.

Her call comes several invigilators have not been paid for supervision of the May/June 2020 CAPE and CSEC examinations.

“Many of the persons owed money said that they thought it would be a smooth process to work and then receive their payments at least a month after the task was completed. However, this has not been the case. It has been over a year and all attempts to acquire their payments have been futile,” a statement from the St. Augustine MP said on Tuesday.

“Additionally, a group of employees at EFCL have also been deprived of their salaries since February 2021. There have been numerous attempts by the employees to get their payments but all went unresolved. Some of the employees are being faced with mounting debts as their ability to pay bills and meet financial obligations have been affected due to non-payment of their salaries.”

“They are facing the possibility losing vehicles and other possessions if they cannot make the required payments,” she said.

MP Ameen condemned the treatment of these honest workers who have been doing their jobs, and receiving no salary or payment at the end of the month.
