Andrew Holness Re-elected As Prime Minister of Jamaica

By Newsroom

The Jamaican Labour Party will once more form the government in Jamaica- this time with significantly more footing, having declared a 50-13 landslide victory in the country’s September 3rd General Election.

It’s a distinctive improvement for the JLP, led by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, when compared to the 32 seats it won with in 2016.

It is also the first time the JLP has been elected to serve for a second consecutive term since the country’s 1967 general election.

Speaking at the JLP Headquarters on Thursday night, PM Holness thanked Jamaicans for placing their confidence in his team.

At the same time, he was cognizant of those who either voted against the JLP, or did not vote at all.

Meanwhile, the People’s National Party, led by Dr. Peter Phillips, forms the Opposition for a second consecutive time.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Dr. Phillips will honor his promise to step down if his party was unsuccessful at the polls.
