Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has penned a letter to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering well wishes as the country faces the worst phase of its Covid-19 battle.

India recorded 320,000 new infections on Tuesday, with deaths rapidly heading towards 200,000 in total.

Overall, the country has 17.6 million confirmed cases of the virus to date.

Hospitals are now beyond maximum capacity, with thousands of people forced to battle their symptoms at home.

Black markets have also been set up to sell oxygen tanks and other medical supplies while funeral homes are working around the clock to cremate the dead.

In his letter dated April 26th, PM Browne reiterated his gratitude to PM Modi for his generosity to the Caribbean region, through the donation of Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccines under a program which began in January.

Antigua and Barbuda specifically received  a shipment of 40,000 doses on March 2nd.
