Barkeepers President Removed From Post For “Unprofessional” Statements As Government Extends Covid-19 Restrictions

By Newsroom

After  describing the Prime Minister’s announcement that bars would remain without  in-house services due to the Covid-19 as “a slap in the face”, Teron Mohan has been replaced as President of the Barkeepers and Operators Association (BOATT)

In a statement on Sunday, BOATT apologized on behalf of  Mr. Mohan, calling his statements “unprofessional.”

“On behalf of The Barkeepers & Operators Association of Trinidad & Tobago, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the Prime Minister and the general public for statements made by our former interim president, Mr Teron Mohan. The statement made was unprofessional and does not reflect nor represent the views of the Association’s executive and its members,”   BOATT said.

Mr Mohan has been replaced as interim president of the Association by the vice-president, Satesh Moonasar.

Weighing in on the Prime Minister allocatin $10 million for bar and restaurant employees affected by the current restrictions imposed on the sector, the Association believes this does not cover the impact of economic damage.

“While the financial support offered to the employees is greatly appreciated, it may not adequately suffice the needs of the vast amount affected. It is much needed support for the industry especially during this Yuletide season. The association welcomes future support and co-operation if restrictions continue” it said.
