Body Of Man Swept Away By Floods Is Recovered

The search for a Princes Town man who was swept away by flood waters on Monday has ended bitterly as his body was discovered in a river in Hardbargain on Wednesday morning.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Walkes,  49, a former Caroni (1975) Ltd worker, last seen alive on Monday afternoon  as he attempted to cross a bridge that was partially submerged in floodwaters in the vicinity of Halls Trace, Hardbargain Village.

Walkes’ relatives, accompanied by fire officers, members of the Defence Force, Coast Guard and police, had resumed their search this morning when they made the find. 

Meanwhile, Disaster Management Units across the 14 corporations will remain on high alert as the Met Office has warned that there may be a repeat of torrential showers as was recorded on Monday. Heavy showers are expected to begin as early as tomorrow afternoon, and can run into the weekend.
