Boy, 16 Pleads Guilty To Drug Trafficking In School

A 16-year-old student was granted $7,500 bail with a surety by the Port-of-Spain Children’s Court yesterday after being charged with having marijuana in possession in a premises where children are present for the purpose of education.

The boy, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was placed on a daily curfew from 5.30 pm to 7.30 am, to reside with his father, attend school regularly and to have good behaviour as part of his bail conditions.

He was charged on May 19th by PC Warrick of the Special Patrol Unit (SPU), Western Division.

According to police reports, on May 18th, SPU police officers were on patrol when they responded to a call from a secondary school vice principal that a student was found with narcotics on the compound. Upon arrival, police officers conducted further investigations during which they discovered the boy to be in possession of nine clear packs of marijuana.

The boy’s father was later contacted and both were conveyed to the Juvenile Booking Centre at the Maracas St. Joseph Police Station where the minor was subsequently charged.
