By Newsroom

Breaching the COVID-19 Act, use of violent language to provoke violence, obstruction of duty of a police officer  and three counts of assault against a police officer.

These are the charges that were laid against political leader of the New National Vision (NNV) party, Fuad Abu Bakr on Wednesday evening, after he spent more than 24 hours behind bars.

Bakr was one of 72 people arrested on Tuesday, for allegedly “inciting violence”, according to police- Bakr was taping a live video of the demonstrations when he was held near Riverside Plaza.

The assault and obstruction charges claim step out of an alleged interaction between Bakr and police officer Clint Smith.

Hours after his arrest, Leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen, Yasin Abu Bakr, called for his son to be released- insisting he had been trying to calm the passionate crowd.
