By Newsroom

Bridgid Annisette-George has been re-elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the Twelfth Session of Parliament began on Friday.

Last evening, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar called on Annisette-George to recuse herself from being nominated for the post, claiming she had been biased towards the Opposition during the last Parliamentary session. However Mrs. Annisette-George was elected given the government had the majority required seats to vote her in.

Annisette-George was elected with a majority of 21 votes for versus 19 against.

Esmond Forde, the Member of Parliament for Tunapuna, was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Meanwhile, Christine Kangaloo has been re-elected as President of the Senate and nigel De Freitas as Deputy President.
