Buccoo Reef Ferry Arrives In T&T Today

By Newsroom

The Buccoo Reef ferry will finally dock at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port of Spain on Tuesday afternoon, after a nearly month-long journey from Australia.

A brief notice from the Ministry of Works and Transport stated that  the ferry was due to dock sometime between noon and 1pm.

The vessel began its second journey to T&T in early March, after having to turn back to the shipyard in Hobart, Australia on January 26th due to a technical issue.

In the House of Representatives in February, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley explained that the faulty parts on the vessel had been replaced before restarting the journey home.

“It has been identified that the alarms were related to some cooling pumps at the engine of the vessel. The manufacturers have been communicated with, they have undertaken to replace the pump and Trinidad and Tobago authorities are very happy about that, because they are not just being repaired but replaced,” he explained.

The Buccoo Reef is the second of two vessels built and owned by Trinidad and Tobago, the first being the APT James.

With a passenger capacity of 1,000 persons and accommodation for up to 182 cars, the vessel will further complement the inter-island fleet providing continued safe, reliable and efficient travel between the islands.
