Buzo, Trotters Facing Possible Closure; Company Pleads With Gov’t To Ease Restrictions

By Newsroom

Another call has been made for government to ease restrictions on businesses in the bar and restaurant industry.

It comes from Trent Restaurants Limited, the parent company of restaurants including Trotters, Buzo and Blu Star Diner.

In a statement on Sunday, the company lamented that if the current restrictions continue it may be forced to close some of its restaurants.

“It is unfortunate to say, but without immediate relief through the resumption of at least limited dining in our restaurants, the time has come for us to face some hard realities about the future of our business and decide which of our restaurants would survive – an excruciating decision akin to having to decide which of your children to save.” the company said.

As it stands, the current COVID-19 regulations dictates that businesses in this sector are permitted to open, however in-house dining is prohibited.

Trent Restaurants Limited says over the past eight months, its operations has contracted by as much as 70%.

“We, like many others, simply no longer have the resources available to keep all of our restaurants open and keep all of our 300 staff employed.,” it lamented.

Government is projected to provide an update on its position regarding regulations this weekend (October 24th).

At his last COVID-19 update on October 10th, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley noted that while there was some improvement  in T&T’s management of coronavirus, government had taken a decision at that time to cautiously maintain the regulations for another 14 day cycle.
