Captain Pollard to miss Pakistan series

By Shirvan Williams

The West Indies will be without their One Day International and T20 International captain Kieron Pollard for the upcoming series against Pakistan. His omission from the team comes after he picked up a hamstring injury during the recent ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

In his absence, Nicholas Pooran has been chosen to lead the team in the T20Is while Shai Hope will captain the team in the ODIs for the first time. Pollard has not made a full recovery and so will miss out on the three T20Is and three ODIs, carded for December 13-22 at the National Stadium, Karachi.

According to a release from the CWI, Pollard is expected to undergo rehabilitation work in Trinidad, under the supervision of CWI’s chief medical officer, Dr Israel Dowlat. Following that he will be reassessed in a few weeks to determine if he can take part in the upcoming home tours against Ireland and England in January 2022.

Experienced campaigner, Devon Thomas, has been called up as his replacement in the One-Day International squad and Rovman Powell, was chosen as Pollard’s replacement in the T20 International squad.
