Cardi B Shares Protest For Andrea, Condemns Acts Of Violence Against Women

By Newsroom

US rapper Cardi B has joined the call for an end to gender-based violence in Trinidad and Tobago and by extension the world, as she reposted images of a candlelight vigil held in honour of kidnap victim Andrea Bharatt, whose body was found down a precipice along the Heights of Aripo last week.

Cardi B, whose mother is Trinidadian, reposted an image from the vigil outside the Red House in Port of Spain on Tuesday night on her Twitter page.

She wrote: “I feel like this year & last year we have seen so much disgusting crimes & evilness happening due to this pandemic shit getting in peoples head .I hate that defenseless people specially women are going thru this evil shit .I pray for peace in the world .”

The tweet, which has so far received 7,500 likes and 1,100 retweets, was welcomed by Trinbagonian fans, who thanked the singer for using her platform to raise awareness.

“Trinidad and Tobago really appreciate this statement. Just to highlight our issues for everyone to know we are in need of serious help is a big move by you as an international artist,” one fan wrote.

Some pointed out that the issue had not stemmed from the pandemic, as was alluded to by the rapper.

“This has everything to do with murders that are happening independently of the pandemic. These things were frequent even before the pandemic. It had to get better for Trinidad and Tobago,” one fan wrote.
