Carifta Games Cancelled

By Newsroom

The 2020 Carifta Games have been cancelled.

The North and Central American and Caribbean (NACAC)  Track and Field Association has previously postponed the games that were due to be held in  Bermuda but issued a press release on Tuesday saying the games have been cancelled.

The main factors, according to the NACAC  is basically the  COVID-19 pandemic and its overall impact on government and private sector plans and budgets for 2020 as well as the uncertainty in re-convening international travel.

The closure of schools and sports facilities have impacted the ability of athletes to train and adequately prepare for a delayed edition of the Carifta Games in 2020 , the NACAC said while noting that the delayed examinations for students at the pre-College stage of their careers was another factor that was taken into consideration.

The executive has also decided that Bermuda would host the 49th edition of our Carifta Games, leaving the door open for Guyana to continue planning to host the 50th-anniversary edition but in 2022.
