An investigation into allegations that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was on the receiving end of a “nefarious” bank transaction involving the transfer of the sum of money to an account in Miami is now a closed case, according to the Head of the Police Financial Intelligence Bureau, Superintendent Lucas.who made the revelation at a Police Press Briefing on  Wednesday afternoon hosted by Commissioner  Gary Griffith. The allegations involving the Prime Minister were made in the House of Representatives on October 9th, 2018 by Oropouche East MP, Roodal Moonilal,  during his contribution to the budget debate.

“After an intense investigation we can now close,” Supt Lucas said, adding that the police investigation was launched in October 2018. “From that time until now the Police have been involved in the investigation and on every turn, we were faced with a similar result. At our last meeting with the Financial Intelligence Unit we found that there were no identifiable transactions directed to the account of subject one to subject two from June 2017 to October 2018,” he said.

“Having regards to the fact that there are no transactions, nothing to connect the parties I have spoken to the Commissioner,  and pending any new information, it is the direction of the Commissioner of Police that the matter is closed,” Supt Lucas said.

During his contribution the Lower House, Moonilal in identifying a Miami bank account number named  Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley as a beneficiary, along with Vidya Deokiesingh, (the Petrotrin employee implicated in the $100 million “fake oil” scandal), to a financial transaction. After the allegations were made Prime Minister  Rowley sent correspondence to the Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith and the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit seeking an investigation.
