Caura Hospital Designated As Monkeypox Facility

By Newsroom

As the country prepares for any cases of Monkeypox, the Caura Hospital has been designated as an isolation and treatment facility.

This announcement was made by Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, during Wednesday’s Covid-19 media briefing.

“Under the Quarantine Act, any person with foreign travel history, entering the country with a suspected or confirmed case of monkeypox, can be quarantined under the hand of the Chief Medical officer,” Minister Deyalsingh said.

“Under the Public Health Regulations, for persons with no link to travel, it allows the minister to designate a facility specifically for the treatment and isolation of persons with monkeypox.” he added.

Trinidad and Tobago has not yet reported any cases of the monkeypox virus.

While a crew member onboard a flight to St Lucia tested positive for the virus this week, the Minister said that was not being treated as a threat to T&T.

“Nobody disembarked, and so far there is not a threat to Trinidad and Tobago from that particular incident,” he said.
