Chicken Thief Caught After Escaping Golden Grove Prison

After managing to successfully escape from the Golden Grove Prison on Friday morning, Siew Persad, also known as ‘Ramdass’ has been recaptured in a joint effort by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and members of the Emergency Response Unit of the Prison Service.

Persad, who is currently serving a one year sentence after pleading guilty to stealing his neighbors chickens, was found in the Arouca vicinity around 4pm, some seven hours after his escape.

Persad is now facing an additional charge of ” Escaping Legal Custody “.

Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Dennis Pulchan has commended the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved as they persisted in the search and eventual recapture of the escapee.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service continues to uphold its mandate of the protection of society and public safety, by utilizing all measures possible. Members of the public are encouraged to do their part by anonymously reporting any precarious activities to the Prison Service’s Hotline at 800-PRSN (7776)” a statement from the Prison Service read.
