Seven people, including two children ages three and six, are in hospital after being shot while attending a wake in Sangre Grande overnight.

The victims were standing in the front yard at the house of mourning at Blake Avenue, Darmarie Hill, when around 10.30 pm, gunmen pulled up and opened fire on the crowd.

The injured are being treated at the Sangre Grande Hospital.

Based on reports from eye-witnesses, police believe a high powered rifle was the weapon of choice.

Investigations are continuing.
