Christian Radio Station Faces Heavy Backlash After Cheering The Cancellation Of Carnival 2021

By Newsroom

Social media users did not mince words in voicing an overarching disapproval for a post shared by Isaac 98.1 fm in which the renowned Christian radio station celebrated the cancellation of this year’s Carnival celebrations- something they said was “worth rejoicing”.

The criticism was so intense that the post was wiped from the station’s radio page just a few hours after it was published.

The now deleted post was accompanied by the caption, “Carnival is officially cancelled this year! Can I hear a cheer? Many churches have been praying and seeking this for years and now it is time to take to the streets and rejoice in our Lord God and King.”

Users almost immediately took issue with their stance, calling it insensitive to not only Trinidad and Tobago’s culture and by extension those who uphold it, but those who have been grossly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic- which caused the cancellation of regular festivities in the first place.

“So, the prayers were answered with a pandemic?” one user asked.

Another wrote: “Before they pray for the safe return of Andrea Bharatt, is this nonsense, steups!”

According to the station’s page, it is hosting a three day revival session from Carnival Sunday to Tuesday, February 14th-16th, themed “Celebration of Christ in eager Anticipation of a Revival”. The three day saga includes a motorcade event, according to the website fbnrevival.com.

No apology has been issued by the radio station following the removal of the post.
