CMO Breaks Down Circumstances Surrounding Fully Vaccinated Delta Cases

By Newsroom

Providing further transparency regarding the two cases of fully vaccinated returning nationals testing positive for the Delta variant, Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram said one was an employee working in the Oil and Gas sector, and the other a patient who developed mild symptoms after entry into T&T.

He noted that both presented negative PCR tests before entry into the country, as is policy.

“So they (the oil and gas stream) have some additional quarantine when you come into the country. Some of them work offshore so they would have been doing some routine testing and picked up the case. Person had no symptoms at the time. We would have been able to quarantine all the contacts of that individual. Although they were in quarantine, they would’ve still had contacts within that site. So it’s about 7 o 8 persons, those persons would’ve been quarantined, all tested negative and discharged,” the CMO explained.

The other case, the person developed mild symptoms five days after arrival into the country and was tested again.

“It was treated as it was a suspected case, all the isolation was done, quarantine was done, there was about three or four contacts- all of whom were in the close family of that particular person, without giving too much information,” he said.

Trinidad and Tobago has recorded a total of six Delta cases; the other four patients were unvaccinated nationals.

To date, over 14,000 fully vaccinated travelers have entered the country since borders reopened on July 17th, only the two cases aforementioned have tested positive for Covid-19.
