Cold Case Cracked: Proprietor Charged with Murder After 17 Years

The TTPS’ HBI Cold Case Unit believe that they have solved a 17-year murder investigation.

According to the TTPS:

A proprietor appeared virtually before a Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on May 29th, 2023 charged with the murder of Kevin St John. KELLY SHAWN ALLERT also called ‘Kelly Shawn Pascal’ also called ‘Kelly’ also called ‘Machine Gun Kelly’, 41, of Akal Extension Road, Santa Cruz was remanded and is expected to reappear on June 26th, 2023.

According to police reports around 12.05 am on May 7th, 2006 Kevin St John, 21 also called Al Capone, of Union Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin was fatally shot while he was at an all fours lime at Jerry Street, Blue Basin Road, Diego Martin.

The matter was investigated by Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) officers Region I who exhausted all avenues available to them at that time. The matter was then referred to the HBI, Cold Case Unit for assessment.

A major crack in the case came when the file was reviewed by Cold Case Specialist Kirk Griffith who generated an extensive report with recommendations and a clinical approach was taken to bring closure to the matter.

As a result, the aforementioned investigators of the unit were able to piece the evidence together and on May 23rd, 2023 KELLY SHAWN ALLERT was arrested. On May 26th, 2023, officers of the Cold Case Unit held an audience with the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC and he advised that KELLY SHAWN ALLERT be charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition. He was charged by PC Mc David of the HBI Cold Case Unit.

The investigation was spearheaded by Snr Supt Rishi Singh, and Supt Lyndon Douglas, supervised by Sgt Nanhoo with assistance from Cold Case Specialist Kirk Griffith, WPCs Rodriguez, Pamphile and WPC Ramkissoon.
