A man and a woman have been remanded into custody after they appeared before a Couva Magistrate on Wednesday 10th May, 2023 charged in connection with the circumstances surrounding the death of GANESH DEOPERSAD.

According to the TTPS:

ALISHA HOSEIN, 26, of Cocoyac Trace, Tortuga Village, was charged with Manslaughter of her common-law husband, Deopersad, while ALEEX LEWIS was charged with Murder.

LEWIS was charged on March 27th 2023, while HOSEIN was charged on Tuesday 9th May, after Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ms Joan Honore-Paul advised on the matter. The accused are scheduled to re-appear at the Couva Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 7th June 2023.

On Tuesday 14th March, 2023, Ms Hosein reported to police that around 12.40 pm three men entered the home, and threatened her with a firearm. She reported that the men then entered the bedroom where her husband slept and shot him. Additional reports stated that the men demanded monies from her, and robbed her of a quantity of cash before escaping.

Assistant Superintendent Steve Persad supervised the investigation while Sgt Smith led Homicide Bureau Region III officers, who made enquiries into matter. As a result of intensive investigations, LEWIS was arrested on March 27th, 2023 and charged with Murder. As investigators continued their probe into the matter, HOSEIN was arrested and charged with Manslaughter on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023.
